AHDA members employ specially trained and qualified staff (SQPs) known as Registered Animal Medicines Advisors (RAMAs) to prescribe animal medicines classified as available without a diagnosis requirement for large farm animals, companion animals and horses. As such we offer unrivalled availability, access and free advice of an essential range of licensed animal medicines essential for the everyday health and welfare of animals. AHDA actively supports the UK multi channel distribution system to prescribe and sell licensed animal medicines via our members. The current focus of AHDA is to support AHDA RAMAs, help to promote responsible use, raise the profile of AHDA RAMAs and support professional prescribing. AHDA is the voice of Animal Health Distributors throughout the UK with governmental, regulatory and public bodies.
Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority
AMTRA is an independent regulatory body, seeking to ensure that prescription and supply of VPS animal medicines is undertaken in a responsible manner. That includes ensuring that standards are right for newly qualified SQPs, overseeing an effective system of CPD for existing SQPs, and working with and contributing to the efforts of SCOPS, COWS, RUMA and others to improve responsible use of medicines. AMTRA provides guidance and advice to its SQPs, and has a disciplinary system to enforce compliance with the SQP Code of Practice. AMTRA provides information to the media and resources to SQPs and businesses to help explain the role of SQPs.
